Course Description: This hands-on course teaches students how to deploy, configure and customize a SharePoint 2016 environment. Managing SharePoint with Windows PowerShell and Central Administration is the primary focus. The course begins with students installing Windows Server. Students then configure an Active Directory forest, complete with organizational units and user/group accounts. Next, a thorough overview of SharePoint’s "out-of-the-box" features is presented. This is followed by the installation of IIS, SQL Server, SharePoint Server and Microsoft Office applications.
Students learn how to generate new Web applications to store and manage SharePoint site collections. Team sites are then created to deploy popular components. These include wikis, blogs, publishing pages and shared calendar content.
Included are techniques for using built-in lists to promote information sharing, as well as the customization of list views. Document library management is also covered, including content approval, document versioning and document check-out. Co-authoring of Microsoft Office documents is also covered.
Students will learn how to use built-in workflows to automate various SharePoint functions. Business Connectivity Services (BCS) will also be used to connect “external” database tables to SharePoint web pages.
SharePoint social networking features are reviewed. These include how to configure My Sites, which allows users to manage their own social content. Also demonstrated is the Tags & Notes feature, which allows users to "like" and comment on SharePoint web content. Synchronization of Active Directory user profiles with SharePoint is also covered.
Comprehensive hands on exercises include creation of common SharePoint components such as lists, libraries, blogs, calendars, wikis, announcements and tasks. Students will add custom pages to their SharePoint sites and build navigation systems thereto. Students will also practice implementing business rules and content access permissions. Content security and integrity are emphasized throughout.
Course Prerequisites: Students should know how to install Windows Server software, as well as how to set up a basic Active Directory forest. This includes the creation of organizational units and user accounts. Students should be able to configure basic NTFS permissions to allow access to shared network folders.
